| Climate
change is a global phenomenon, from which no country is
spared. Its global consequences are immense:
|
The number
of natural disasters has tripled since 1960.
|
| |
|
 |
The average global temperature has risen by 0.70
C since |
| |
industrialization began |
| |
|
|
9 out of 10 glaciers have melted to half their size
over the last |
| |
few centuries |
The primary cause is carbon dioxide (CO2) air pollution
resulting from the burning of fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal).
Globally these raw materials provide 79% of the total energy
demand. CO2 emissions will continue to increase given the
unrelenting thirst for energy, which now also includes developing
and emerging nations. At the same time fossil fuel reserves
will run out in the foreseeable future: crude oil (approx.
43 years), natural gas (approx. 67 years), uranium (approx.42
years). |
